Practical guide
Creating a PNG copy can meet the requirements of editors and applications, but it cannot restore information already lost from the JPG. These checks help you use the result with clear expectations.
Conversion is useful when an application requires PNG or when you want a copy in that format for further work in an editor. If you keep the dimensions, the geometry of the image does not change.
PNG avoids adding another stage of JPG compression to this copy. It still cannot turn a compressed photograph back into the camera original or recover details that have already been lost.
File size alone does not measure visual quality. A PNG created from a JPG photograph may take up more space without recovering information. Its benefit is meeting the format required by the next application.
If you are preparing an image for a website, you can also compare the result of converting JPG to WEBP. The appropriate output depends on its destination.
PNG supports transparency, but the input JPG contains no transparent channel to recover. The copy will continue to show the background already visible in the image.
A product photograph taken on a table will still show the table. Isolating the subject or creating a transparent background requires a separate editing process; changing the format does not perform that work.
Confirm that the destination editor accepts the download, that the dimensions are correct, and that the framing has not changed. If you chose to resize the image, check that adjustment separately.
Keep the input JPG with your working files. This lets you identify the source of the copy and generate another version if its intended use changes.
JPG and JPEG use the same conversion page. Converting a JPG cannot recover discarded detail or create a transparent background.
Dimensions are retained by default; optional resizing changes them. Changing the extension alone does not convert the file. Keep a local copy of the original before uploading.
Input and output expire automatically after the period shown in the converter. Download your result before then.
