Practical guide
JPG opens AVIF in applications without support. Conversion recompresses pixels and flattens compatible transparency onto white.
Verify that JPG is required. Renaming is insufficient; AVIF is decoded and a real JPG created.
JPG has no alpha. Inspect shadows and transparent edges on white.
Set quality and inspect texture and gradients. Lost AVIF detail cannot be recovered.
Metadata is removed and returning to AVIF cannot recreate the source. Keep it.
To retain alpha use AVIF to PNG; if AVIF is later needed from JPG see JPG to AVIF without expecting restoration.
No. Compatible alpha is composed over white.
No. It re-encodes pixels and restores no lost detail.
No. Output is normalized without metadata; keep AVIF when it matters.
